Previously I posted scans of Australian cartoonist Terry Murphy's work on Sky Hawk comics on the Pikitia tumblr. These featured ink wash splash panels alongside black and white linework. The collection of Avian Tempest comics featured below largely eschew linework and are rendered in moody ink washes well suited to the wartime adventures and quite uncommon from other Australian comics of the era.
Biggles comics created in Australia initially by John Dixon and subsequently by Albert De Vine were reprinted in England by Stratos Publications Ltd during the 1950's. These reprints of the quintessentially English character of Biggles were packaged into 68 page collections with John Dixon's original Australian creations Tim Valour and The Crimson Comet filling up the pages alongside another of Albert De Vine's Australian comics works Gimlet who was also created by Biggles creator W. E Johns.
I wish I could present to you a chronological run of the eight years Reg E Hicks' Adventures of Tightrope Tim strip ran in the Sunbeams supplement (1941 - 1949) but alas I only have a spotty collection of installments mainly from the latter years of World War Two.
